Dr. John S. Halow
Senior Researcher

Dr. John S. Halow is a Senior Researcher at Separation Design Group and Lecturer in Chemistry at Waynesburg University. Dr. Halow received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering with a minors in Engineering Mechanics and Physical Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 1967. Dr. Halow was employed by Exxon Research and Engineering Company from 1967 to 1977 performing research and serving as an Exxon corporate wide consultant in fluid-solid systems in refining, chemical and new venture technologies. In 1977 he joined the U.S. Department of Energy Federal Energy Technology Center where he served as a researcher, manager and division director. Before retiring from DOE in 2003, Dr. Halow developed and managed a group of over 20 scientists which performed mathematical modeling and visualization of fossil energy technologies. Dr. Halow has had extensive personal experience in modeling systems involving fluid flow coupled with diffusion, chemical reaction and adsorption. He is the author of over 70 technical articles in fluid-solid dynamics, mathematical modeling, and energy and environmental technologies. He has authored three chapters of technical books fluid-solids design, and tomography, edited volumes for the American Institutes of Chemical Engineers on fluidization and a Focus issue for the Journal Chaos on the the Global Dynamics in Spatially Extended Mechanical Systems. At Separation Design, Dr. Halow is responsible for mathematical modeling of lab and commercial separation devices. He also participates in SDG's experimental planning and proposal preparation activities.
