Separation Design Group, LLC wins $100,000 Phase I SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation

The Innovation Partnership is proud to announce that Separation Design Group, LLC of Waynesburg has been awarded a Phase I SBIR for $100,000 from the National Science Foundation. Set to begin on July 1, 2006, this project funds the company's work in modifying analytic instruments capable of capturing and characterizing the performance of structured adsorbents in ultra-rapid cycle devices for industrial, commercial, and medical uses.

"We are looking for instrument manufacturers and end users of gas separations technology to partner in this exciting project," said Doug Galbraith, SDGroup CEO and General Manager. This project demonstrates the company's continued success in winning federally-funded research grants and is its fourth award in the company's short history.

Separation Design Group, LLC, a southwest Pennsylvania-based research and development firm founded in 2003, specializes in Separation Technology, or the separation of components from a complex gas or liquid flow. The company recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new building - a 57,000-sq-ft former nursing home that it is recycling into a high-tech research facility.

The Innovation Partnership, a consortium of Pennsylvania economic development organizations, university partners, and the state Department of Community and Economic Development, awarded Separation Design with a free federal proposal concept review and a $3,000 MicroGrant to assist the company in their proposal preparation.

The Innovation Partnership is a statewide initiative designed to assist Pennsylvania's small, high-tech companies and researchers increase their share of federal grant dollars used to develop and commercialize innovative technologies. Support for the Partnership is received from the PA Department of Community and Economic Development and the 12 partner organizations.
