Separation Design Group signs memorandum with Arkema USA

WAYNESBURG, Pennsylvania –  Waynesburg-based research and technology development company Separation Design Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with Arkema USA to proceed with the development of proprietary materials for use in SDGroup’s revolutionary medical device.

The materials are expected to be commercially available to SDGroup by the end of 2009.  Using Arkema’s product, SDGroup anticipates deployment of a quiet, compact design that is a major improvement to current technologies.  “We are excited to be working with this world class chemicals manufacturer,” said SDGroup general manager Doug Galbraith.  “Their expertise will enable our product to satisfy the needs and improve the quality of life of the many current patients.” In addition, Larry Baum, Sales Manager for Arkema, stated “Separation Design group has consistently impressed us with their technical know-how, market savvy and innovative ideas, such that we are confident that our collaboration will prove to have significant benefits for both companies, as well as ultimately many patients.”

To date, SDGroup’s project has received over $1 million in funding from private and public sources, including Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse Technology Development Fund, Innovation Works Innovation Adoption Fund, and National Institutes of Health Phase I and Phase II STTR grants in cooperation with Waynesburg University.  Separation Design Group is also continuing work on device modifications for non-medical industrial applications.
