Who We Are
Separation Design Group is a research and product development firm established in 2003. Located in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, SDGroup is ideally situated to take advantage of the numerous high tech and energy related research facilities in Pittsburgh, PA and Morgantown, WV.

What We Do
SDGroup projects are focused on efficient use of energy and resources. Our team of researchers is drawn from various disciplines: chemistry, physics, computer science, and mechanical engineering. We also work with Waynesburg University and other research institutions on various technology and business development projects, sharing personnel and other resources.

SDGroup is developing technologies that will enable the more efficient use of energy and energy resources, including:

• Oxygen concentrators to enhance biological processes
  
  
• Heat pumping and recovery
  
  
• Fuel flexible engines
  
  
• Instruments to characterize ultra-rapid adsorption processes
  

Facilities
SDGroup has "recycled" a 57,000 sq. ft. former nursing home to house our offices and laboratories for research, math modeling, analytical, prototyping, and testing. Our facility includes materials science laboratories; electronics development, assembly and testing laboratories; a scanning electron and super probe microscopy lab; a prototyping lab with 3-D printers, casting and other equipment.

Strategic Relationships
SDGroup has received Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) research grants to pursue the development of the oxygen concentrator and analytical instruments technology from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Additional technology and business development funding has come from Pennsylvania-based business incubator groups, including the Katz School of Business Small Business Development Center at the University of Pittsburgh, Innovation Partnership of Philadelphia, Innovation Works, and Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse.
